2017. Wow. The WWW has come a long way. Remember how SSL certificates used to cost money? Yep, you can now get them for free! But even if you couldn’t…you should still be using HTTPS. Here’s why!

HTTPS for better security

1. Search Engines Love HTTPS

Google have openly said that sites that utilise HTTPS have a higher weighting than sites that don’t. So, let’s break that up. A higher weighting means you can rank higher. The higher you rank the more traffic you get. The more traffic you get the more leads you get. The more leads you get the more conversions you get. The more conversions you get the more profit you make. It goes on!

2. It’s SECURE

Now the majority of users probably won’t care about this one but the truth is that if you entered your credit card details on a site that used HTTPS you are infinitely safer than you would be if you entered your credit card details on a site without HTTPS. Now as the world goes on the above will become known to more and more. You want to ensure your customers feel they are in safe hands. Showing them a sign of security is a sure way to ensure they do. The CA Security Council found that 42% of people “understand the green bar means greater safety”.

3. Technology is Advancing

With the release of HTTP/2 it means that if you utilise a HTTPS connection your site can load faster than it would on regular HTTP. Google have openly said that page speed matters when it comes to search engine rankings! So, let’s break that up (again). A higher weighting means you can rank higher (again). The higher you rank the more traffic you get (again). The more traffic you get the more leads you get (again). The more leads you get the more conversions you get (again). The more conversions you get the more profit you make (again). It goes on (again)!

4. It’s FREE!

The only cost you may need to pay is for a developer to install SSL for you and that shouldn’t be very expensive! Certificate Authorities like LetsEncrypt are giving people the freedom to secure their site for free! Take advantage of this!
